I studied under Robert Barnes and Berry Gealt at Indiana University as an undergraduate and work in a variety of styles as befits the idea or ideas I try to communicate or subject I try to depict. I most like the work of Jasper Johns, Giacommetti and Emile Nolde and try to keep the painting understandable and unified. I have a collection of 20th c. classical music and attempt to make my work somewhat akin to that in particular the works of Scheoke, Berg and Hindemith, that varies though.
I have made a few stylistic changes as the subject matter changed. The color palette is small to keep the work close to the intent. Too many colors might alter the effect or representation. Most of my work is about places I have lived, I worked for minimum wage for years and lived in different working-class neighborhoods, or people I've known. I try to keep the painting to a narrowly defined space and focus only on the subject matter.
I don't have an MFA and haven't taken a photography class.
I work with many groups and organizations among them, an advisor to the Bangladeshi pac, informal advisor to the Palestinian Committee, Washington office for Bosnia and Irish Northern Aid Committee.
